God's Simple Plan of Salvation
You don't have to figure this out on your own, and you don't have to earn it. God made the way simple enough for anyone to understand.
Everyone has sinned.
Nobody is left out of this. Every person who has ever lived, including us, has sinned against God.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 3:23 · KJV
Sin has a penalty, and God has a gift.
Sin earns death. Eternal life is not earned. It is given.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23 · KJV
God loved you before you turned to Him.
He did not wait for us to clean up first. Christ died for us while we were still sinners.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 · KJV
You cannot earn it. It’s a free gift.
Salvation is a gift of grace, through faith. It is not a reward for anything you have done or will do.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9 · KJV
Believe in your heart. Confess it with your mouth.
This is how a person is saved: believing what God says about His Son, and telling Him so.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Talk To God About It
This is not a set of magic words.
Saying a prayer does not save you. Believing on the Lord Jesus Christ is what saves you. A prayer is just one way to tell God, in your own words, that this is what you believe. If you would rather pray in your own words than read ours, do that instead. God is not grading your grammar.
“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned and that I cannot save myself. I believe You died for me and rose again. Right now, I am trusting You alone to save me. Thank You for the gift of eternal life.”
